Sunderland could make a ‘surprise’ loan move for Bobby Duncan before the transfer deadline closes, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
What’s the word?
Sunderland are pursuing late business in the window after bringing in Josh Scowen earlier this week.
The Black Cats are eyeing a deal for Declan John of Swansea after Phil Parkinson confirmed the club’s interest following their 1-0 win over Tranmere on Wednesday evening.
Roker Report would go onto claim that their interest was only in a temporary move. However, as well as adding to their defensive ranks, a player could arrive to bolster the final third too.

Former Liverpool academy man Duncan is in their sights after failing to really make a breakthrough in Italy with Fiorentina.

Nail in the coffin for Grigg?
Will Grigg has been linked with moves away from the club this January but it was reported yesterday that he didn’t fancy dropping down to League 2 in order to exit the Stadium of Light.
The forward has attracted the interest of Bradford, although journalist Keith Downie claims the Black Cats have swiftly rejected that offer.
Parkinson noted in his Wednesday press conference: “If he’s here past Friday, great, we look forward to working with him. If something comes up, then we’ll have a chat.”
That something could either be a lucrative offer from a further club, something that clearly betters what Bradford offered previously, or indeed it might now be a loan move for Duncan.
If the 18-year-old arrives then it would feel pointless to keep Grigg around. After all, he’s struggling for a place in the team as it is, having scored once all season in the league and not starting since December.
Duncan hasn’t featured for Fiorentina’s first-team since his summer arrival but he does have four strikes in nine outings for their academy sides.
It would be a risk but certainly one worth taking given his promise. A view to a permanent deal could also be impressive business.
Meanwhile, Sunderland are eyeing a further loan move before the window slams shut on Friday…
