Marcelo Bielsa continues to prove why he is so respected in the game and thanks to his management Leeds sit second in the Championship, currently enjoying a five-match winning streak.
It is some feat given the departure of Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson in the summer, as well as injuries to first-team players like Luke Ayling and Adam Forshaw at various points this season.
He has been able to continue last season’s form, primarily, because of the defensive organisation he has put in place, and upon closer inspection, it is the man-marking system which is working so well.
It is a bold move for the Argentine to set his team up in such a way as all it takes is a couple of successful dribbles to pull players out of position and open up space, yet Leeds operate so effectively with it.
As such, they not only enjoy the best defensive record in the country with 10 goals conceded in 19 matches, but the best record in Europe’s top five leagues.
These fans certainly believe that Bielsa’s style has to be a good one due to the results it has produced, and considering Leeds have even improved since the change in defensive personnel, the manager deserves further credit.
He identified Ben White as having the attributes to slot into his system and the youngster hasn’t looked back, and in fact, has become pivotal for the Whites, winning 1.8 tackles per game and producing 2.6 interceptions each outing.
One fan has noted the contribution made by the loanee, while another has lavished praise on Bielsa for being steadfast in his belief, as it is now paying off big time.
The FA Cup fixture against Arsenal could provide a stern test of Bielsa’s style, and White’s capabilities, but could the youngster handle the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette?
